Railway Ticket Cancellation Rule

While Cancelling Railway tickets you need to consider the certain rules in order to get maximum refund. 

Here are the different Cases for Railway Ticket Refund.

Case 1

You have a confirm ticket in any one of the class 2nd class, slipper, 3 rd AC or first AC and you are cancelling your ticket 48 hours before train departure.

There are flat charges for different class if you cancel your ticket 48 hours before your journey. You have to pay following fee as cancellation charges per ticket.

For Second class you have pay 60 Rs.

For Slipper class, you have to pay 120 Rs.

For 3rd AC and AC chair car, you have to pay 180 Rs.

For 2nd AC you have to pay 200Rs.

For 3rd AC you have to pay 240 Rs.

Case 2

You have a confirm ticket in any one of the class 2nd class, slipper, 3 rd AC or first AC and you are cancelling your ticket 48 to 12 hours before train departure.

you will have to pay 25 % of the total cost of the train ticket along with the minimum cancelling flat fee. If your ticket price is of 1000 Rs and you are travelling in 3rd AC. You will get a refund of  1000- (250+190)  = 560Rs. 

Case 3

You have a confirm ticket in any one of the class 2nd class, slipper, 3 rd AC or first AC and you are cancelling your ticket 12 to 4 hours before train departure.

You will have to pay 50% of the total cost of the train ticket along with the minimum cancellation fee.  If your ticket price is of 1000 Rs and you are travelling in 3rd AC. You will get a refund of  1000- (500+190)  = 310Rs. 

Case 4

You have a confirm ticket in any one of the class 2nd class, slipper, 3 rd AC or first AC and you are cancelling your ticket in last 4 of train departure.

You will not get any refund if you are not cancelling your ticket at least four hours before train departure.

Case 5

If You have a waiting / RAC ticket only clerk-age charges are deducted from your ticket price. No extra deduction is done in any class ticket.

Clerk age charges are  Rs65 per passenger for all classes except 2nd class.

Clerk age charges are Rs30 per passenger for the 2nd class ticket.

Case 6

Can we cancel a tatkal ticket and get the refund.

Yes, Tatkal ticket can be cancelled however you will not receive any refund if you cancel tatkal tickets.

Case 6

How will I get the refund for the ticket booked from IRCTC portal?

If you have a confirm ticket you will have to cancel ticket from IRCTC portal, you will get the refund in your account automatically within seven days.

If you have a waiting ticket you do not need to cancel a ticket. If your ticket is not confirmed at the time of chart preparation your ticket will automatically get cancelled and money would be refunded in your account.
